Q: I’ve been looking for a traditional bow for a while now and would like to start hunting with one next season. I’m not sure whether to get a recurve or a longbow. I just want something that is forgiving and will kill a deer. I noticed you shoot a longbow, but it doesn’t seem to be very long or bulky. What is your suggestion on this? Thank you.

Jeremy Leger Benton, LA

A:I have a longbow that I enjoy shooting, but I’ve actually been hunting with an Acadian Woods one-piece recurve bow since the ‘94 season. It’s a very slim and lightweight bow, and a lot of guys have mistaken it for a longbow.

A well-placed arrow with a sharp broadhead from any hunting weightbow will kill a deer.

Recurves usually shoot a little faster than a longbow, but a longbow is much quieter and easier to shoot. A hybrid longbow combines the best of both and is the bow of choice for a lot of traditional bowhunters.

It really comes down to a personal choice. What matters most is how the bow fi ts the individual. Some guys never fi nd that right “fi t,” and others fi nd it right away. e more bows that you get to shoot, the more you will understand what I’m talking about. When it “fi ts,” you will know it.

Be safe and best wishes, Warren Womack
